Bearkat Volleyball Continues Dominance

Deveney Wells-Gibson totaled a season best 23 kills to lead the Sam Houston volleyball team to a four-set victory over Northwestern State Saturday afternoon in Natchitoches, La.

The Bearkats won 25-22 23-25 25-14 25-11 to up their Southland Conference record to 11-1 and stand 14-7 for the season.

Shelby Genung totaled nine kills and Krista Koopman and Lauren Bohlen added six each.

Setter Tayler Gray assisted on 48 of Sam Houston’s 53 kills.

Breanna Homer produced 19 digs and Clair Kilpatrick added 18. Haley Neisler led the Kats with seven blocks.

Northwestern State, now 13-10 for the year and 9-2 in conference action, was led by Stacey DiFrancesco with ll kills.

The first two sets were nip-and-tuck affairs. The two teams were tied six times with three lead changes in the first set.

Down 21-20, SHSU rallied to win five of the last seven points to take the frame.

Sam Houston held early leads in the second set and trailed by one 23-22 before the Demons closed out to even the match a set apiece at the break.

The Bearkats came back strong, rolling through the third and fourth set with only one lead change.
